Sew Selfish: Jalie Nursing Tunic in Gray

Jalie 3132 Nursing Top Tunic Normally I don't mind yanking up my shirt and letting my babies nurse, but in the colder months, that cool breeze blowing on exposed skin doesn't feel so great. Plus, it's just nice to have some tops that let you discreetly breastfeed for certain occasions. Jalie 3132 - Nursing and Regular Tees & Tunics is the perfect basic top pattern for both nursing and non-nursing gals.

I made the tunic-length, nursing version in a size U (US 8). It fits perfectly, although I could probably go down a size or two for the shorter-length version. (I don't want it to hug my hips too tightly.) My mom bought me this lovely fabric from Yellow Bird Fabrics when she was here for a visit in August. And yes, if you're starting to think that all I wear is gray and black, you would be correct. I'm hoping I can remedy that as I do more selfish sewing!

I'm headed to Nuttal's today to look for fabric to whip up some more of these beauties. I absolutely love that I can wear the tunic as a mini-dress with leggings and STILL NURSE! And have my butt covered! WIN!

If you're wondering how it works, there's a singlet-style piece under that front panel that allows you to pull it to the center of your chest to expose the breast. It almost looks like suspenders under there holding up the bottom part of the top/tunic.

The best part of this pattern is that it came together in about an hour. The most time-consuming part was switching to a double-needle to do the hems (but totally worth it!). I sewed the rest with my serger and recommend that you have one to make this pattern since you need to finish the edges of the singlet under the front panel.

Details: Hat - Waffel Hat, knit by me. Scarf - thrifted. Leggings - Via Spiga (fleece-lined!), purchased at DSW. Boots - Seychelles Slap on the Wrist in Whiskey, purchased at DSW.
