When Christina of Two Little Hooligans asked me to be a part of her sewing spaces series, I jumped at the chance because...well...it was just the kick in the pants I needed to get this room whipped into shape! We bought this house almost a year ago, but sadly, this is the only room I've really changed. Previously, it was a little boy's room, and it was Ezra's nursery for the first four months (until we moved him in with Harper). I booted him out and staked out my territory...no more basement sewing for me! (Now Scott's in the basement...womp womp womp...)
I LOVE this room. I love the light. And the white-ish walls (they are a very, very light gray called Irish Mist by Behr). And how most everything is tucked away in its place. And how it's above ground level. If you could only see what was my sewing room in our old house...oh my gosh...you don't even want to know. No really. You don't.
Most everything in this room is from Ikea (if you couldn't tell). I don't love Ikea the way some people do...but I do think they have great stuff for sewing/crafting areas. You don't really want to spend a ton on this kind of stuff since it takes a beating, so it works. I think my favorite part is the cutting table which is a kitchen island I found for 55%-off in the as-is section. Yesss! No more bending over to the floor to trace/cut patterns! I win!
My sewing machine and serger will be getting another sibling soon - a brand new Janome 1000CPX will be joining us in a week or so! I am so excited to play with the new bundle of joy. My knits will thank me.
This room still needs a little attention in the wall department. I'm not super keen on hanging a pegboard, but I'm not opposed to it, either. I guess I just prefer to have things tucked away. Perhaps a small quilt or something is in order.
So what do you think? I just love this room! I think I spend more time in it than any other place in our house. Harper likes it, too, since there are so many "fikey" (spiky) things to play with (haha) and so much fabric to spread all over the floor. :)
