The Shwin Skirt is Here!

A few months ago, I was surfing Pinterest and discovered the most adorable blog - ShwinandShwin.blogspot.com. Shauna, the author, showcases her amazing design and sewing skills on an almost daily basis. Her kids, Abbey and Jude, are the perfect models for her adorable creations! You absolutely must check it out. After reading one of Shauna's posts about how she's more of a sewist (I really hate that word - can I please say seamstress?!) than a knitter, I thought, "Hey, I can knit! And Abbey is precious! I think I'll design and knit her a skirt!" So, I reached out to Shauna, and she thought a collaborative project was a great idea.

The design and construction of this skirt went through several iterations, and I am so absolutely happy with how it turned out. Actually, the finished product is almost exactly what I'd originally envisioned...it's funny how things often work out that way.

The Shwin Skirt is super easy-to-knit and has the following features:

  • A-line shape
  • Two optional pockets on the front (with buttons)
  • Pleated shaping at waist
  • Elastic casing waistband

The skirt pattern comes in sizes 12mos-4T. It's knit in-the-round using a size 8 circular needle (24" and 16") and two skeins of Berroco Vintage (worsted weight). The pattern is perfect even for an advanced beginner - the only skills needed are casting on, knitting, purling, knitting two together, yarn over and casting off. Basic sewing skills are also needed, but I have photos in the pattern to help you long the way. (You can check out the pattern page on Ravelry here.)

Just look at how adorable it is on Abbey!

I'm sure you know a little girl who would look just adorable in The Shwin Skirt! You can purchase the pattern on Craftsy or on Ravelry for just $1.99 by clicking the button below. As always, happy knitting!
