Momiform MAKEover: Huge Kickoff & Giveaway!

Greetings, fellow sewists! I am sooo excited to announce that today kicks off the first (annual?) Momiform MAKEover series here on Baste + Gather. I’ve got 30+ stitchin’ moms all lined up and ready to “MAKE” over their daily momiforms with handmade garments. I’ve seen some of what these ladies have sewn up for us, and I can’t wait to share!

How did the Momiform MAKEover come about? Well…

Soon after I had my son, I was wearing old, maternity sweatpants around the house with holes in the bum. Sure, that’s fine for a new mom…but these pants had become daily attire through three pregnancies AND beyond. Their time had come…and gone. I had this moment where I realized that I would wear things that made me feel better about myself and more “put together” if only I had items that were comfortable and just as easy-to-wear as the old standbys. That’s when I came up with the idea of the Momiform MAKEover.

I decided I would attempt to replace my worn-out, ill-fitting, not-flattering garments with handmade garments that looked as great as they felt. When I shared the idea with a few sewing blogger friends, they were so excited, I knew I had to make a series out of it. So here we are!

On each of the next eight days, I’ll give you a brief preview of that day’s featured moms’ (3-4 per day) outfits along with a link to their full posts on their blogs. My hope is that you’ll have lots of inspiration to MAKE over your daily uniform whether you’re a mom or not!

Aaaaaaaaand…(drum roll please), we have SO. MUCH. STUFF. to give away including a brand-spanking new Janome Skyline S5 sewing machine, gift certificates from Indiesew, Michael Levine and UpCraft Club, and TONS of other goodies from indie pattern designers and authors. I’ve also lined up discounts for you as outlined below.

So, get ready to be “wowed” by these ladies, and in the meantime, check out all the sponsors, discounts and giveaways below. I’ll see you back here tomorrow!

  • Sarah

Grainline Archer in cozy flannel, Julia cardigan (Mouse House Creations), and Some Hey June Union St Tees. Probably should find something for the bottom half too though :)

The womens raglan from patternsforpirates and the willow wrap dress from love notions are both lovely and look awesome to make :)

I have an old sewing machine with only straight and zigzag, so I guess the feature I like the most is the feeds that drop, and the ability to do free motion quilting.

  • http://www.sweetkm.com/ Kristi

Superior Feed. I don’t know what that is, but it sounds like it would solve all my current fabric jamming woes!

  • Emily

I have a mechanical machine and would love the stitch options and stitch length options!

  • Rebecca Brasher

  • Cenas

I’m not a mother, but I’m all in for a more suitable wardrobe MAKEover!!
I would love to win the Janome machine, but as a beginner, I cannot tell which feature is most appealing (although I love that it comes with a Blind Hem Foot G!!)

  • Sarah Jo

The Colette Moneta has been on my to-sew list since the pattern was released, but I’ve neither sewn the dress or even bought the pattern! I recently bought Hey June’s Biscayne blouse and plan to make several-perfect for summer and layering with a cardigan.

  • Emma Mather

What a great idea. I have been trying to climb out of the tatty hack-about clothes wearing habit for the last six months. I’ve only been making stuff I can wear to the park, jump about at the kids gym, climb trees, carry kids and wash a thousand times. This momiform update is the inspiration I need to up my game. Thanks!
And yup, I’m with Ali and am wondering about the 91 needle positions on the Janome too. As in a UK resident I guess I may never know. Please could the lucky winner enlighten me when they’ve fathomed it all out.

  • Michelle Martini

  • Natalie

I would love to try the Linden Sweatshirt & Julia Cardigan. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Tânia

Great idea! Such a pity the Janome machine can’t be shipped internationally

  • sophie

I love the Zinnia from Colette. That for sure is number 1 on my wishlist.

  • Kelly Tuttle

I love that the specs say the machine has 6 bright LED lights- my sewing room is super dark (Its a coat closet) and any extra light I can get helps a lot! I know I could get one of those external lights, but something built in is even better!

  • Angela Halverson

While the Janome machine has soooo many more/better options than my current one, the one feature I love the most is that it includes a speed control. My 10 year old would be able to sew straighter lines (she has a bit of a lead foot with the sewing peddle) and save her a lot of frustration that my current sewing machine gives her.

  • Angela Halverson

One of the first patterns I’d make is the Palaucho pants from A Sparkly Baby. I think it would be a nice transition piece from yoga pants and look a little more sophisticated. 😉
